Zell am Ziller

With around 2,000 residents and an area of 2.4 km², Zell am Ziller is very much the heart of the Zillertal. The town lies at an elevation of 580 m above sea level, serving both as the educational and administrative center of the valley. The people in Zell need no excuse to head up into the mountains! This is a place where everyone can find his or her own personal mountain adventure: be that hiking and climbing, out on one of the numerous mountain bike trails, paragliding, enjoying a leisurely walk along the Ziller Promenade, or simply taking a leisurely stroll through town.
The 45,000 m² leisure park is a further enrichment to the holiday experience offered by Zell, featuring 4 outdoor and 3 indoor tennis courts, a 4-lane tournament bowling alley, an adventure playground, a mini-golf course, a fun court for basket- or street ball, a beach volleyball court and a soccer pitch.
In winter, this is the starting point for the Zillertal Arena - the region's biggest ski area, stretching all the way to the SalzburgerLand. It is no exaggeration when we talk of the Zillertal's long tradition of hospitality. In fact, we first hear of it back in 1428, when Italian ambassadors journeying to Salzburg mentioned a good inn located in Zell. Long-standing tradition also extends to brewing, for Zell is also home to the region's oldest private brewery, while Austria's biggest springtime and folk-costume festival - the traditional Gauder Festival - is held here annually on the 1st weekend in May.
